Billings & Fees

Our rehabilitation facility is a non-OHIP private practice and most of our services are covered through Motor Vehicle Accident insurance plans, WSIB (Worker’s Safety & Insurance Board), extended health plans, or self-pays.

If You Are Hurt In a Motor Vehicle Accident

If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, whether you are the driver or a passenger (provided that vehicle you are in is insured), by law, in the province of Ontario you are entitled to receive six weeks of physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment ASAP without having to wait for authorization from your auto insurance company. Nevertheless, you have to report the accident within one week to your auto insurance representative.

A chiropractor will do the necessary assessment of your medical condition and then complete the pre-approved framework treatment plan. Other treatment plans will be made upon the completion of the pre-approved treatment plan indicating types and length of treatment recommended depending on your medical condition. These treatment plans will be reviewed by your insurance adjuster before authorization is given. The service rendered to you will be billed directly through the motor vehicle accident insurance company. However, if you have an extended health care plan which covers Chiropractic services, you are required to provide us with the policy information and to fill out the appropriate forms such that your extended health care plan covers a portion of these treatment expenses and the balance will be covered by your motor vehicle accident insurance plan.

If You Are Hurt At Work

You are required to report the incident to your employer ASAP and fill out the appropriate forms. It is advisable to visit your doctor who will recommend the appropriate treatment, if needed. This recommendation should be forwarded to your employer as well as the WSIB (Worker’s Safety and Insurance Board) to obtain the claim number which is required prior to the treatment. You are entitled to receive a 12 week period of physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment and this can be extended for another 12 weeks depending on your medical condition. To ensure continuity of treatment, the chiropractor shall complete and submit an extension request to WSIB four weeks prior to the completion of the first 12 week treatment period.

The employer or the WSIB case manager sometimes requires an assessment of the worker’s abilities and will ask your family doctor or your chiropractor to fill out a Functional Abilities form which describes the activities you can and cannot perform due to your injury.

The billing for services will be billed directly to WSIB and WSIB will pay the clinic for the services rendered to the patient. Therefore, this is a direct process between WSIB and our clinic, eliminating the need for the patient to pay first and then get reimbursed.

Services Covered by Extended Health Plans or Work Health Plans

Did you know that chiropractic services and orthotics could be covered by your group insurance or your personal insurance? Check the terms of your benefits handbook offered to you by your employer. The handbook will provide you with the dollar amount allowed per visit and per year for each type of service. If you cannot locate your benefits handbook, you can call your insurance company to ask them about your entitlement for each type of service.

Most of the insurance companies do not allow for direct billing, therefore, it is our policy that the patient has to pay for the service rendered and submit the invoice provided by our facility to your insurance company for reimbursement.
